Goodbye August!

Posted on 2 september, 2010 by Dave Turnbull

Hey there guys and girls! I thought it was time to give you an update on what’s going happening here at Barskolan London.

Our August group was great, good students and a lot of crazy times (although I’ll leave them to your imagination, I don’t want to embarrass anyone too much!).

The very very very hot hot hot sauce!

In the last week we took a trip to Vinopolis wine centre and tried a selection of different wines; a couply of students weren’t too big on wine to begin but everyone seemed to be able to pick out a favourite by the end! We also practiced a bit more flair at the park, I’ve been really impressed by how well this group has picked it up.

Jesper drinking from a Pina Colada balancing on my head!

The students had the final test last Friday and I was really happy with everyone’s results, the whole group did really well and are definitely ready to go and take their skills and get a great bar job. After the test we had a cocktail competition, and again thanks to Bombay Sapphire gin there were a few prizes for the winner. The students came up with some really interesting drinks (almost all red in colour as well which was a bit funny!). Phil (another teacher here in London) and I choose our top two and then put it to the students to vote for the best drink. And the winner this month was….

Cathrine! Cathrine made a great drink using Bombay Sapphire gin, fresh mint, and some Midori Melon liquor al served in a watermelon. The watermelon was a good ‘glass’, not only does it look cool but it also added to the flavour of the drink. Well done Cathrine!

Saturday night was the last night in London for most of the group so we had our farewell dinner and then headed off to some bars in central London for a last night out, with most of the group (teachers included!) finishing up the night at the famous nightclub Fabric before they headed to their respective homes.

Since then we have had the bank holiday weekend and as always in London there were a hundred different things to do, with many different music festivals, parties and the famous Notting Hill Carnival. We also decided to use some of this time to do a bit of work around the Roxy so now the bar looks even better than before.

I’ll be back with another post soon to let you know how September group is going and also a few other bits and pieces…. but for now I’m off the to the Roxy for a drink!

If you have any q’s about London either leave a comment at the bottom or send them through to Barskolan and we’ll make sure to answer them for you asap. Otherwise I hope to see you here soon!
