Hey guys and girls, time for an update from Barskolan London. Things here have been really busy the past few weeks with a whole lot happening in the city. All last week was London Cocktail Week, where the best bars and brands get together to host drink tastings, classes and of course some pretty awesome parties. Barskolan was there for it as our classroom bar, The Roxy Bar and Screen was the host for two separate movie parties. On the Wednesday there was a special screening of a very young looking Tom Cruise playing a bartender in Cocktail; this event was sponsored by Santa Teresa Venezuela n rums so there were a lot of cool old school rum cocktails being drunk. The next night followed up with a Jamesons Irish Whisky party where they showed a classic English film. Lots of bartenders showed up and both nights were a lot of fun with a lot of drinks!
If the week wasn’t enough then there was Rum Fest on Saturday and Sunday, a festival all about Rum and the Carribiean and South American party and cultre that goes with it. A lot of great rum brands including Bacardi, Appleton, Santa Teresa, and Sailor Jerrys, and rum cocktails to drink there as well… at least from what I can remember. The festival timed with our Rum lessons for bar school so it was a very Rum based weekend!
A whole lot of Bacardi at Rum Fest
We are into the third week for the October barschool group and they are all learning fast and making some great cocktails. We covered Brandy today (Cognac, Armagnac, Brandy de Jerez, Eau de Vies and some more) including a bit of history, how they are all made and some tastings and cocktails to finish. We also had a couple of speed competitions to see how could make some drinks the fastest which had a pretty funny ending…
Rum tasting!
Tomorrow is Friday and also one of the students birthdays (Happy Birthday Anton!) so we’ll be heading out to celebrate just in time to start the weekend, and if it’s anything like last weekend at Ministry of Sound it’s going to be pretty crazy! The next few weeks will have Halloween (which always has some really great parties going on especially for bartenders like the Opera Nera Sambuca party) and later next month the Finals of the Roadhouse World Flair competition which will be huge. If you have any q’s then feel free to leave them in the comments or on the Barskolan facebook page and I’ll try and answer them for you, otherwise I hope to see you all here soon.
